CEIC LIBRARY DESCRIPTION

The Census and Economic Information Center (CEIC) library is a component of the Montana State Data Center program which is the official source of Census Bureau data for the state. CEIC's library provides access to documents and electronic files which address the demographic and economic characteristics of the state (historical and current). The collection includes publications received on an annual, quarterly and monthly basis from the U.S. Bureau of the Census through the State Data Center program, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis through the BEA User Group program, as well as other federal and Montana state agencies. CEIC staff assist clients in the selection and application of appropriate data series as well as referral to other sources as needed. CEIC's library does not circulate materials but is open to the public for research purposes.

WHAT IS AVAILABLE

Census and Economic data -- Basic materials held in the library include the following: the U.S. Bureau of the Census publications ranging from press releases to the decennial census reports to intercensal estimates; U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis data which include a variety of economic series reports for the state and counties.

Books and Periodicals -- The library contains nearly 2,000 documents including federal government and other Montana state agency publications and private (non-government) economic and business related publications. Examples of subject areas covered are-- agriculture, business, demographics, economics, economic development, and labor market data.

Library Databases -- CEIC is a part of the Montana Library Network which gives staff and clients access to a variety of library databases. CEIC staff also extensively utilize the Internet and other proprietary databases for research and document retrieval.

Census Maps -- The library's collection includes the current decennial census maps. County Block maps, Census Tract/BNA maps, and County Subdivision Outline maps are available for use and for purchase. Historical decennial census maps are also a part of the collection.

GIS Maps and Resources -- CEIC offers a variety of mapping, geographic, and GIS (geographic information system) data and services.
